A new study reveals widespread drug used to treat migraines shows in weight loss.
The drug is named frovatriptan. It drops under a class of medicines developed to relieve severe headaches and other symptoms such as sickness and vomiting.
And now, scientists say, it could help you lose a few pounds.
University of Texas Southwestern students split mice into six groups and fed them high-fat diets. All groups also took a prescription medication, one of which was frovatriptan. After 24 days, the mice given to take frovatriptan lost a norm of 3.6% of their body weight and reached the other groups not accepting frovatriptan. Those batches achieved an average of 5.1% of their body weight.
Frovatriptan, the students say, lowers hunger by holding a chemical receptor in the brain.
